Meat Manager

 

General Description:

The Meat Dept. Manager is responsible for the full meat department operation and is under the direction of the Store Manager. The Meat Department Manager's task is to ensure that the department achieves economic goals, that department personnel are appropriately performing the assigned work activities and that the customers are afforded fresh, safe products at fair prices in a clean, friendly atmosphere.

 

Qualifications:

·        Minimum of four years experience in a supermarket meat department operation.

·        Two years supervisory experience required with skills including directing work, scheduling, and training.

·        Minimum two years management experience required in ordering, inventory control, and merchandising.

·        Experienced in profit management in areas such as gross profit, labor control, understanding and meeting budget goals.

·        Exercises decision making authority in product presentation.

·        Has the ability to demonstrate and train department personnel in salesmanship techniques.

·        Product knowledge levels sufficient to exercise discretionary authority over matters related to variety, buying, preparation, and pricing.

·        Good customer relations experience and skills with an ability to train and authority to hold accountable other department personnel in providing excellent customer service.

·        Ability to perform essential functions, with reasonable accommodation if needed.

·        Good work record/references, especially with respect to honesty and ethics.

·        Willingness to assume responsibility for personal, professional growth, to make a professional-level commitment to the position.

 

Essential Functions:

·        Greets each customer, using names whenever possible; assists customers with their needs or requests; extends thanks when service is complete; handles customer complaints when needed.

·        Cuts and trims in a proper, neat and timely manner.

·        Controls inventory to maintain fresh and appealing product, in ample amount and varieties.

·        Achieves economic goals, including profit margin, sales, and labor goals established by the company.

·        Supervises, develops and trains subordinates; schedules labor within required guidelines; handles employee problems and complaints.

·        Oversees sanitation, maintenance, safety and security; ensures that department equipment is in good working order.

·        Participates in training and professional development recommended by the company for the purpose of preparing to manage a department on his/her own.

·        Under consultation with corporate Meat Specialists/Merchandisers, groups and displays merchandise according to customer needs and in an appealing manner.

·        Under consultation with corporate Meat Specialists/Merchandisers, develops and applies pricing policies within required guidelines; monitors billings for charges and credits.

·        Maintains friendly and respectful decorum at all times toward customers, co-workers, vendors and all others.

·        Handles, in a positive manner, those inherent levels of stress associated with employment situations at a management level.

 

Other Responsibilities:

·        Understands, communicates to department personnel, and complies with laws/regulations and company policies including those regarding confidentiality, honesty and business ethics.

·        Current Food Handler Card.

·        Current First Aid / CPR Certificate.

·        Maintains responsive and cooperative relationships with supervisors, co-workers, vendors, customers and other personnel.

·        Accomplishes assigned tasks in an efficient and timely manner within standards established by supervisor.

·        Participates in own training and professional development for the purpose of desired career advancement.

·        Demonstrates and trains the "Please the customer first" credo.

·        Performs other related duties as assigned.
