Cake Decorator


General Description:

The Cake Decorator is expected to use good salesmanship techniques in promoting the department's products.  He/she is responsible for decorating cakes and cream pastries, and for the preparation and sale of products.  Additional responsibilities include meeting department production levels, proper display,  rotation, sanitary handling of the product, overall cleanliness in the department, and the completion of various assigned tasks under the direction of his/her supervisors.

 

Essential Functions:

·        Greets customers by using names whenever possible; extends thanks when appropriate; assists customers with their needs and requests whether verbalized or observed.

·        Decorates cakes and cream pastries; displays and fills all product cases/shelves in accordance with standards for rotation and appearance.

·        Maintains the product in a sanitary condition and adheres to cleanliness standards of the department.

·        Uses good salesmanship techniques to promote the purchase of the department's products.

·        Prepares food as requested by customers or supervisors in accordance with department standards.

·        Maintains friendly and respectful decorum at all times toward customers, co-workers, vendors and all others.

·        Handles, in a positive manner, those inherent levels of stress associated with employment situations.

 

Other Responsibilities:

·        Complies with laws/regulations and company policies including those regarding confidentiality, honesty and business ethics.

·        Maintains responsive and cooperative relationships with supervisors, co-workers, vendors, customers and other personnel.

·        Accomplishes assigned tasks and meets production standards in an efficient and timely manner.

·        Participates in training and professional development.

·        Demonstrates the "Please the customer first" credo.

·        Other related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

·        Current Food Handler Card

·        Minimum of one year in a retail bakery business.

·        Knowledge of scratch bakery items.

·        Two plus years cake decorating experience in a retail environment.

·        Exceptional customer service skills.

·        Consistent standing, stooping, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs.

·        Ability to be self-motivated, creative and work with limited direct supervision.

·        Ability to perform essential functions, with reasonable accommodation if needed.

·        Neat, clean, professional appearance.

·        Good work record/references.
