Seafood Clerk

General Description: 

Customer service and salesmanship are the primary duties of the Meat/Fish Service Counter Clerk.  He/she is responsible for stocking the self-service cases with products that have been prepared by the meatcutter or meatwrapper and are in storage ready for sale.  This may include seafood, meats and deli items.

Essential Functions:

  • Greets each customer on the sales floor, using names whenever possible;  assists customers with their needs or requests;  extends thanks when service is complete.
  • Displays and fills all product cases/shelves in accordance with standards for rotation and appearance of product.
  • Maintains the product in a sanitary condition and adheres to cleanliness standards of the department.
  • Uses good salesmanship techniques to promote the department's products.
  • Prepares meat, seafood and deli items as requested by customers.
  • Completes assigned tasks in an efficient and timely manner according to company standards.
  • Maintains friendly and respectful decorum at all times toward customers, co-workers, vendors and all others.
  • Handles, in a positive manner, those inherent levels of stress associated with employment situations.
  • Consistent standing, bending, stooping, lifting up to 50 or mor lbs


Other Employment Responsibilities:

  • Complies with laws/regulations and company policies including those regarding confidentiality, honesty and business ethics.
  • Maintains responsive and cooperative relationships with supervisors, co-workers,vendors, customers and other personnel.
  • Accomplishes assigned tasks in an efficient and timely manner within standards established by supervisor.
  • Demonstrates the "Please the customer first" credo.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Fluency in Spanish a plus.
  • Dependability and flexibility in working a variety of shifts.
  • Must love seafood!

 Qualifications:

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • General knowledge or experience in meat/fish department.
  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to perform essential functions, with reasonable accommodation if needed.
  • Ability and willingness to work quickly and independently.
  • Good customer relations skills with an outgoing, friendly personality and a desire to serve the public.
  • Ability to work in coordination and cooperation with supervisors, co-workers, vendors and other business associates.
