Workers Compensation and HR Coordinator

General Description:

Coordinate team member’s Labor & Industry claims with Third Party Administrator in order to bring them to prompt and equitable resolution.  Monitor individual claim activities including using the ORCA L&I State database.  Work with store management and doctors to return injured team members to modified duty assignments as needed in order to return the team member to their job of injury.  Manage modified duty budget.  Complete Department of Labor & Industries Initial Report of Accident and inform the Department initially of any pertinent circumstances that may affect the claim.  Assist Vocational Counselors returning team members to job of injury.  Set up hard copy file and enter new claims into Brown and Cole’s database.  Maintain OSHA logs.  Communicate hazards and injures to HR Director. 

Essential Functions:
  • Communicate with injured team members, store management, Third Party Administrator, Dept of L&I, Vocational Counselors, and Doctors via written correspondence, e-mails fax and telephone
  • Identifies and investigates possible fraud and subrogation opportunities to reduce total claim cost
  • Maintain a centralized Workers’ Compensation Database
  • Maintain OSHA logs electronically for all stores
  • Interface with Third Party Administrator and Department of Labor and Industries on claim status and concerns  
  • Prepares, creates, and/or sends letters reports and forms          
  • Diary and track certain claims to closure
  • Coordinate modified duty work with store management, monitor and approve labor costs to the payroll department
  • Consult with TPA attorney on claims that are referred to The  Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals
  • Review reserves on high cost claims
Other Responsibilities:
  • Complies with laws/regulations and company policies including those regarding confidentiality, honesty, and business ethics.
  • Maintains responsive and cooperative relationships with supervisors, co workers, vendors, customers, and other personnel.
  • Accomplishes assigned tasks in an efficient and timely manner within standards established by supervisor.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 5 years experience managing Workers Compensation
  • Requires high interpersonal skills, customer focus and excellent communication and computer skills. 
  • Candidate should be a good manager as relates to working with attorney’s injured team members and healthcare professionals. 
  • Must be a team player and have basic claims experience preferably in workers’ compensation, and knowledge of legal, medical and insurance terminology.
  • Neat, clean, business-like appearance.
  • Good work record/references especially with respect to honesty and dependability.
  • Ability to perform essential functions, with reasonable accommodation if needed.
  • Must be able to prioritize on a continual basis
  • Good follow through and attention to detail
