| Meat CutterJourneyman General Description: The job of the Meat Cutter is to help put out appealing, wholesome products for the customer in a clean and friendly atmosphere, under the guidance and supervision of the Meat Department Manager. This position also requires wrapping, cleaning up at the end of the day and maintenance of the fresh meat case.
Essential Functions: - Cuts, trims, grinds barbecues or wraps meat department products in a proper and timely manner.
- Stocks and rotates meat cases; handles pull backs; orders supplies.
- Extends services and assistance to store customers; greets them by name whenever possible and extends thanks upon completion of service.
- Maintains sanitation, safety, and security standards within the department.
- Keeps aware of new ideas to develop and improve the meat department.
- Maintains friendly and respectful decorum at all times toward customers, co-workers, vendors and all others.
- Handles, in a positive manner, those inherent levels of stress associated with employment situations.
Other Responsibilities: - Complies with laws/regulations and company policies including those regarding confidentiality, honesty and business ethics.
- Maintains responsive and cooperative relationships with supervisors, co-workers, vendors, customers and other personnel.
- Accomplishes assigned tasks in an efficient and timely manner within standards established by supervisor.
- Participates in training and professional development.
- Demonstrates the "Please the customer first" credo.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: - A strong desire to learn the meat cutting trade as a career is required.
- A willingness to commit to an approximate two year apprenticeship program is required.
- Ability to perform frequent heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.) during the regular course of job activities.
- Willingness to work a varied and flexible schedule including days, evenings, and weekends.
- Ability to perform essential functions with reasonable accommodation, if needed.
- Willing to learn the preparation procedures for all meat department products.
- Ability to continually stand, bend and stoop.
- General knowledge of various cuts of meat and meat department products is preferred
- A willingness to actively participate in training programs and professional development.
- Outgoing personality with a sincere desire to serve the public; strong customer relations skills.
- Ability to work independently; a self-motivated worker with a strong desire to perform meat cutting as a career.
