Store Manager

General Description

The Store Manager is responsible to achieve the store's economic goals. He/she achieves this through customer satisfaction ensuring a safe, clean and inviting store to shop while providing value through pricing and fresh, wholesome products. Team member development and overall satisfaction is also ultimately the responsibility of the store manager.

Essential Functions

  • Greets each customer, using names whenever possible; assists customers with their needs or requests, whether verbalized or observed; extends thanks to each customer when appropriate.
  • Achieves economic goals and gross profit set by the VP Store Operations.
  • Oversees total store operations
  • Supervises grocery associates; identifies areas for training; handles corrective actions, performance evaluations, hiring/firing, etc.
  • Checks the competition regularly; identifies new trends in the industry.
  • Develops and implements Store operational goals and objectives; participates in the annual business planning and goal setting process.
  • Hires, supervises, communicates store standards, schedules, gives corrective action, directs work, evaluates, trains and develops team members.
  • Maintains friendly and respectful decorum at all times toward customers, co-workers, vendors and all others.
  • Handles, in a positive manner, those inherent levels of stress associated with employment situations.
  • Complies with laws/regulations and company policies including those regarding confidentiality, honesty, and business ethics.
  • Maintains responsive and cooperative relationships with supervisors, co-workers, vendors, customers, and other personnel.
  • Accomplishes assigned tasks in an efficient and timely manner within standards established by supervisor.
  • Participates in training and professional development.
  • Demonstrates the "Please the customer first" credo.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

 Qualifications:

  • Current Food Handler Card
  • Maintain a current Workplace First Aid and Adult CPR Card.
  • Minimum two years experience as a checker.
  • Sufficient mathematical proficiency and analytical business skills to perform required functions in areas such as budget development/management, financial analysis, and written and verbal communication.
  • Ability and willingness to work a varied schedule including days, nights, and weekends.
  • Ability to work quickly and independently.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and training.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Consistent standing, stooping, bending, and lifting.
  • Constant arm, hand and wrist motion.

 Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 year specifically serving as a supermarket Store Manager or 4 years as an Assistant Store Manager.
  • Ability to build sales, achieve predetermined economic and financial goals for the store, including profit margin and labor costs.
  • Sufficient mathematical proficiency to perform required functions such as budget development/management, financial analysis, store profitability, and business plan development.
  • Proficiency in written communication is also required.
  • Computer literate; experienced and able to use Excel (spreadsheet), Lotus Notes and MS Word (word processing) or similar programs.
  • Minimum six years overall managerial experience at store level, including supervision of staff; customer service/relations, compliance with company policies and procedures, ability to ensure that total store production and quality standards are met.
  • Ability and willingness to work a varied and flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, or days.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Willingness to live and relocate, if necessary, within the trade area.
  • Willingness to assume responsibility for personal and professional growth and to make a professional level of commitment to the position.
  • A strong desire for career advancement in the industry.
  • Ability to perform essential functions, with reasonable accommodation if needed.
