Cheese Lead

General Description:

Under the direction of the Food Services Manager, the Cheese Lead promotes the Department’s products through display, demonstration, and sharing knowledge with our customers. Responsible for quality of product, proper handling, shrink, sales, inventory and product ordering.  

Essential Functions:  
  •  Actively engages customers in sharing knowledge relating to cheese including varieties, textures, flavors, culinary and wine pairing.
  • Uses good salesmanship  techniques to promote purchases.
  • Serves as the department’s primary operational and technical trainer.
  • Implements department operational goals and objectives; participates in annual business planning and goal setting.
  • Controls inventory orders of all cheese merchandise, maintains ample amounts and variety of products for the department.  Takes periodic inventory counts as pre-determined by company practices or the Store Manager.
  • Monitors maintenance of equipment and takes action to repair.
  • Ensures high standards in food handling and sanitation practices are utilized in the department.
  • Prepares, groups, and displays merchandise; maintains an appropriate variety of fresh, appealing product.
  • Ensures appropriate execution of company merchandising and promotional plans.
  • Ensures that correct pricing policies are in place; take action to correct if not.
  • Prepares and ensures accuracy of invoice transmittal to the Accounting Department.
  • Handles, in a positive manner, those inherent levels of stress associated with employment situations.
  • Assists customers with their special needs or requests, whether verbalized or observed.  Handles customer complaints in a courteous and professional manner on behalf of the department.
  • Maintains and ensures among team members that a friendly, helpful and respectful decorum is given at all times toward customers, co-workers, vendors and all others associated with the department.

 

 

Other Responsibilities: 

  • Complies with laws/regulations and company policies including those regarding confidentiality, honesty, and business ethics.
  • Maintains responsive and cooperative relationships with supervisors, co-workers, vendors, customers, and other personnel.
  • Regularly checks in on the competition
  • Accomplishes assigned tasks in an efficient and timely manner within standards established by the Store Manager.
  • Committed to keeping up with trends in the cheese industry.
  • Demonstrates and ensures that the company "Please the customer first" credo is observed both in spirit and in action.
  • Maintains for self valid Food Handlers Cards from the local Health Dept.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  •  Qualifications: 

    • Applicants will be evaluated in terms of their experience, knowledge, and capabilities in the following and other related areas:
      • Current Food Handler Card.
      • Working knowledge of the U.S. and International Cheese markets and associated regulations.
      • Working knowledge of proper cheese handling and storage techniques.
      • Experience and knowledge of cheese texture, aging, flavor and divergent milks.
      • Ability and knowledge to assist and educate customers in wine/cheese pairing and culinary uses of cheese.
      • Displays a sincere desire to serve department customers by projecting a positive image, is aware of and anticipates customer needs.
      • Ability to work with limited supervision.
      • Consistent standing, stooping, bending, and lifting 50+ lbs.
